Coalition eyes federal funds

The Braidwood Area Healthy Communities Coalition (BAHCC) is looking for a boost from the federal government to help fund their programs.

On Feb. 13, BAHCC Project Coordinator Pete Dell’Aquila gave a brief presentation to the members of the city council, seeking the city’s help in an effort to apply for grant funding.

The coalition is applying for a $125,000 grant through the Drug-Free Communities (DFC) Support Program.

Coalition gets grant for prevention programs

The Braidwood Area Healthy Community Coalition (BAHCC) will get a financial boost in its effort to build up prevention programs in the area, thanks to some funding from the Community Foundation of Will County.

The BAHCC was one of 11 grant recipients honored by the Community Foundation last week. On Oct. 4, those chosen to receive their share of more than $90,000 in grants gathered at the annual fall reception.

The BAHCC was awarded $8,000, to pay for development, maintenance, and sustainability of a Local Youth Advisory Committee.

Fishing for a Cure raises $50,000 for BAHCC

It’s been 16 years since Exelon’s Braidwood Station first took a Saturday on the lake and turned it into a charity event.

On June 3, representatives from the plant hosted dozens of anglers to again raise funds, this time benefiting a cause that is essential to Braidwood.

The 16th Annual “Fishing for a Cure” charity bass tournament attracted fishermen from across the Midwest. The funds from this year’s tournament mean that since its inception, the charity event has raised more than a half million dollars for charitable causes.

Drug take back set for April 29

The Braidwood Police Department and the Braidwood Area Healthy Communities Coalition (BAHCC) are teaming up for a drug-takeback event later this month.

The city will host a drug take-back event at the police station, 141 W. Main St.,  on Saturday, April 29, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Residents can turn in unused or expired medication for safe disposal during those hours.
