Firefighters brush up on skills at Chief Shabbona Fire School

The scene showed a school bus crashed among two vehicles.

But it wasn’t an accident that had firefighters utilizing the jaws of life and other lifesaving skills.

The school bus extrication exercise was part of this year’s Chief Shabbona 2022 Pow Wow Fire School, which took place despite the rain and gloom on Sunday, Sept. 11 in Morris. Dozens of firefighters got a chance for some up close and personal training during the event, which included in-class training, basic firefighting, grain bin and large animal rescue, and the flashover simulator.

Dozens of firefighters got a chance for some up close and personal training during this year’s annual Chief Shabbona 2018 Pow Wow Fire School.

The annual event took place on Sunday, April 8, in Morris.

This year’s fire school hosted 16 departments, with 95 firefighters from around the region spread out over four classes. This year’s school also featured 22 instructors from around the area.

The event is held by the Chief Shabbona Firefighters Training Association.

Fire Chief honored for 45 years of service

Smoke and fire were present at the ComEd station along Pine Bluff Road in Morris on Sunday, April 8. But it wasn’t an emergency.

The activity was part of the annual Chief Shabbona Fire School, an ongoing educational program for local fire departments.

This year’s event hosted 70 students from 15 departments, with attendees participating in basic firemanship classes, hands-on auto extrication classes, a flashover simulator, and other hands-on and classroom activities.
