Lady Warriors split with Manteno

    The Coal City eighth grade softball team kicked off its season Saturday, by splitting a double-header with Manteno.
    In the first game of the day the Lady Warriors won by a slim margin, defeating the Panthers, 8-7.
    Katilyn Jasper picked up the “W” in the circle, as she fanned nine batters down the stretch.
    Lexi Willis led the offense with two hits, one RBI and one run scored, while Addison Gagliardo followed with two hits and one run.
    Nyha Planeta, Jocie Widlowski, Kerigan Copes, Katilyn Jasper and Magen Planeta all added to the win with one hit each, as well as an RBI or a run scored.
    In the second game, the Lady Warriors wound up losing to a fired up Manteno offense, 13-3.
    Gagliardo suffered the loss on the mound, but had a solid outing at the plate with two hits for two runs and two RBIs.
    Gwen Wharrie chipped in with two hits and one RBI.
    Maci Baldauf, Jasper, Copes, Willis and Addyson Waliczek each added hits in the game.
