Braidwood honors veterans on Memorial Day

The Braidwood American Legion Koca Post 39 remembered fallen soldiers during this year's Memorial Day ceremony on Monday, May 31.

In addition to honoring all fallen service members, the ceremony also paid special tribute to the late Jim Canup, who served as Commander of the Braidwood American Legion from 2001 until his death in February of this year. Canup was a member of the United States Marine Corps who served in Vietnam.
The service also featured remarks from Pastor Jeff Whittum of Ignite Christian Church and Braidwood City Administrator Tony Altiery.
The Reed-Custer middle and high school bands also played a medley of U.S. Armed Forces songs, while the RCHS Madrigal Choir performed the National Anthem, America the Beautiful, and God Bless America.
