Alfred Kwiatkowski

COAL CITY—Alfred “Al” Joseph Kwiatkowski, of Coal City, formerly of Darien, IL, passed away on Thursday, July 2, 2026, at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, IL.
Born on Dec. 3, 1943, in Chicago, Alfred was a son of Alfred and Olga (nee Smolicki) Kwiatkowski. He was raised and educated in Hinsdale, IL, graduating from the class of 1963 before earning an Associate's Degree in Commercial Art from Southern Illinois University in 1965. Following his education, Alfred proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1966 to 1968.
On Nov. 20, 1965, Alfred married the love of his life, Renee Lee Pahis, in Clarendon Hills, IL. Together, they built a life centered on love, faith, and family, raising their son in Darien for many years before making their home in Coal City.
Alfred dedicated 40 years of his career in the construction industry where he worked as a supervisor until his well-earned retirement in 2005. His strong work ethic, reliability, and commitment to excellence earned him the respect of colleagues throughout his career. A man of faith, Alfred was a devoted member of Assumption Catholic Church in Coal City.
Alfred found great joy in the outdoors and especially enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, water skiing, and snow skiing in his younger years. He was a proud member of the NRA, the Illinois Rifle Association, and the PVSA Sportsman Club, reflecting his lifelong appreciation for responsible firearm ownership.
Above all else, Alfred's greatest joy was his family. He treasured every moment spent with those he loved, and nothing brought him greater happiness than being "Grandpa." His grandchildren held a special place in his heart, and the love and memories he shared with them will remain a lasting gift. Alfred will be remembered for his unwavering devotion to his family and the kindness he extended to others. He was deeply loved and will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him, leaving behind the enduring reminder to "Keep the Faith."
Survivors include his wife, Renee Kwiatkowski, of Coal City; one son, Alfred “Al” L. (Sherry) Kwiatkowski, of Goose Lake; two grandchildren: Cody (Breeanne) Kwiatkowski, of Herscher, IL and Victoria Kwiatkowski (Alex Storm), of Braidwood; five great-grandchildren: Braxton, Lawson, Brady, Jolene, and Grayson; one sister-in-law, Pamela (Bryce) Beverlin, of Minnesota; two nieces: Christa and Katelyn and one nephew, Bryce.
Al was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Frank Kwiatkowski; mother and father-in-law: Leroy and Adele Pahis; and one sister-in-law, Unalee Pahis.
The family will receive friends at Reeves Funeral Home, 75 N. Broadway St., in Coal City on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, from 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will follow on Thursday, July 9, 2026, at Assumption Catholic Church, 215 S. Kankakee St., in Coal City at 10 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Reverend Josh Miller and assisted by Deacon William Dunn.
Burial with full military honors will follow at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery.
