Coal City businesses sign on to revolving loan program

The village of Coal City is offering loans to businesses impacted by the coronavirus pandemic, and the first two were handed out last week.
The village is offering interest-free loans of up to $2,000 per business through the COVID-19 Revolving Loan Fund. Funds will be distributed on a first-come, first- served basis through Dec. 30 or until funds have been depleted.
Last month, village trustees approved the loan program designating $50,000 from the town’s facade improvement program into the fund.

Coal City agrees to pay dispatching fees

The village of Coal City received a $95,573.58 bill for police dispatching services, and agreed to to pay it.
Trustees approved paying the 2020 contribution of $95,573.58 to the Grundy County Emergency Telephone System Board (ETSB) in two equal payments of $47,786.79, the first on June 1 and second by November 1.
Village Administrator Matt Fritz said the cost is up a bit, but is relatively stable.
The increase reflects an upswing in local police activity the county’s consolidated dispatch center has handled for the Coal City Police Department.

Wren departs Coal City Village Board

     Justin Wren has stepped down from the Coal City Village Board, citing scheduling demands and changes at work.  
    “I can no longer serve in the capacity as required as a village trustee, so tonight I’m submitting my resignation to Mayor (Terry) Halliday and Clerk (Pam) Noffsinger,” Wren told fellow village officials at the close of the board’s Feb. 28 meeting.
    “I’ve missed the past couple of meetings and I don’t feel that’s fair to the village or its residents,” said Wren, who was attending his first full council meeting since Dec. 13.

Clerk’s conference attendance questioned

    Coal City’s Village Clerk Pam Noffsinger is interested in attending the International Institute of Municipal Clerks annual conference, but it all comes down to money.
    Noffsinger has already registered for the conference, but is seeking a grant to cover the $650 fee. The only thing she’s asking the village to pick up is the cost of accomodations at about $927 for the four-day training in Norfolk, VA.
    The clerk let the board know she’d cover the remaining costs if allowed to attend the conference set for May 20 to 23.
