Wendy Smith

COAL CITY—Wendy Smith, 70, of Coal City, passed away Thursday, May 4, 2023 at the Lightways Hospice Home in Joliet.
Born Feb. 6, 1953 in Joliet, Wendy was a daughter of Howard and Waunetta (Longanecker) Smith. She was raised in Coal City and graduated from Coal City High School with the class of 1971. Wendy was a beautician; worked at Hornsby's as well as V&S Variety Store in Coal City, and later went to work in banking at Centrue Bank in Coal City and Diamond for many years. She was most recently employed part-time for Hometown Storage in Diamond.
Wendy was a dedicated member of Coal City United Methodist Church, where she served as their treasurer; served with the Sunshine Circle, and participated in the choir. In her free time Wendy enjoyed to crochet; she took pleasure in baking, and passed the time working both crossword and jigsaw puzzles. Above all else she enjoyed quality time with her pets.
Survivors include her sisters, Tamie (Curtis) McMahan, of Galveston, TX and Pamie (Philip “Leo”) Middleton, of Coal City; four nieces: Tina Middleton, Jennifer McMahan (Ephraim Martin), Amanda (Jamie) Thompson and Robin McMahan (Tom Barra); great-nieces and great-nephews: Kaytie, Hunter, Christopher, Aidan, Tyler, Nora and Jason and numerous cousins, as well as her dear friend and companion, Steven Pimentel.
Wendy was preceded in death by her parents.
The family will receive friends for a visitation at Reeves Funeral Home, 75 N. Broadway, one block north of IL Route 113/Division Street in Coal City on Saturday, May 13, 2023 from 9 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11 a.m. Pastor Jay Regennitter from the Coal City United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will follow in Braceville-Gardner Cemetery, where Wendy will be laid to rest with her parents.
In lieu of flowers, preferred memorials have been requested to be made to the family to assist in Wendy's final expenses.
