Michael Cerny

CARBON HILL—Michael Anton Cerny, 60, formerly of Carbon Hill passed away on Sunday, Nov. 14, 2021 in Ten Mile, OR., where he was currently residing.
Mike was born on Oct. 19, 1961 in Morris, to Anton F. and Sandra S. (nee Blackburn) Cerny. He was raised and educated in Coal City, graduating from Coal City High School in 1981. Mike married his second wife, Lynn McNamara on Feb, 3, 2019 in Carbon Hill, and loved her with his whole heart. They had been together for 15 years before their marriage. He worked in mechanical maintenance at Exelon, retiring after more than 30 years. Mike also served as Mayor of Carbon Hill for four years.
This man had a big heart. Mike was such a one of a kind person and could talk for hours with everyone and anyone. He loved to meet new people and run into old friends. He was a hard worker who took pride in his job. He was a mechanical guy and enjoyed working on projects around his home. His interests included riding his motorcycle and hunting for agates on the shores of the ocean in Oregon, especially with the mild weather that he found very pleasurable there. As a father, Mike was tough but fair. He liked to take his children on family vacations when they were young, along with fishing, fossil hunting and spending many days at the Coal City Miner’s Club. He also taught them to value hard work and to be productive.
He is survived by his loving wife, Lynn; his mother, Sandra Cerny; his children: Mindy (Edward) Londeau, of Florida; Lora Mae Cerny, of Coal City and Michael A. (Jennifer) Cerny II, of Carbon Hill; eight grandchildren: Layla, Maggie, Gianna, R.J., Lily, Ambiance, Sunny and Luna Rae; his sisters: Cindy (Kim) Brackett, of Coal City; Tammy (Kevin) Christian, of Morris and Lori (the late Eddie) Lancaster, of Carbon Hill; his stepchildren: Shauna Bolte, Emma Lorenc and Connor Zdunich and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Anton Cerny; his maternal grandparents, Hazel and William “Cat” Bell; paternal grandparents, Ida and Joseph Cerny; brother in law, Eddie Lancaster and his best friend, Charlie Boero.
As were Mike’s wishes, cremation rites will be accorded.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
