Two Coal City wrestlers still have a shot at becoming state champions after winning during the quarterfinal round of the IHSA Individual State wrestling tournament on Friday.

Brody Widlowski (126) and Landin Benson (165) advance to the semifinals Saturday where they need to win in order to wrestle for the Class 1A championship starting at 6 p.m. Saturday night.

Six other Coalers have a chance at third place if they keep winning in the wrestlebacks. Owen Peterson (106), Cooper Morris (113), Culan Lindemuth (120), Mason Garner (138), Brant Widlowski (150), and Cade Poyner (190) each suffered a loss in the quarterfinals before each won their first round match in the wrestlebacks. Each needs to win two more times in order to reach the match to decide third place.

Coalers Noah Houston (132), Brock Finch (144) and James Keigher (175) all suffered a second loss and are done.

Four Wilmington wrestlers—Landon Dooley (120), Oakley Rivera (126), Parker Adams (157) and Logan VanDuyne (190)—suffered losses today and are done.

Reed-Custer's Dominic Alaimo started the wrestlebacks with a win but then lost to bow out of the tournament.
