Lady ‘Cat kickers fall in four straight games

The Wilmington girls soccer team lost their fourth straight match on Thursday, falling 3-2 to Lisle.
Abbie Rampa and Alaina Clark pounded through a goal each but Lisle pounded in three to capture the win.
Wilmington’s defense played a whale of a game with 53 steals as Alaina and Alexa Clark led the charge with 14, and 12.
Dezirae Yanke also had 12 while Hannah Basinger stole five. Aubrey Bryant nabbed four while Rampa had three.

Catcher Jenna Jackson had a big day leading the Wilmington softball team to an 18-6 victory over Reed-Custer on Monday.
Jackson went 3-for-5 with two doubles and a long home run that put this one to bed after five innings by way of the 10-run rule.

Humphries, ‘Cats fall to Comets in pitching duel

Wilmington’s Kaden Humphries pitched a stellar game on Monday but the Wilmington baseball team came up short in a 1-0 loss to Reed-Custer. That bumps the ‘Cats to sixth in the Illinois Central Eight Conference with a 2-6 record in league play which is led by Coal City, and Streator.
Humphries gave up one unearned run on three hits while fanning nine and walking one through 6.2 innings. Reed-Custer’s Jake McPherson, who went seven, gave up two hits and struck out nine.

Lady Wildcats run 10th in Seneca Invite

On Friday, the Wildcats traveled to Seneca to compete in the Seneca Irish Invitational. The girls finished in 10th place out of the 15-team field. The boys finished last in the 16-team field. The girls had six personal records (PR’s) on the day, bringing their season total to 48. The boys had nine PR’s on the day to bring their season total to 57. A PR is an improvement on a person’s previous mark or the establishment of a personal record. Performances by the girls included:
Katelyn McCann - Sr - 100 – 13.05 – 2nd, 200 – 27.56 – PR – 2nd - long jump – 17’06 – PR – 2nd

The Wilmington softball team was unable to contain the conference front-runner, Manteno, who scored early and often in a 12-4 victory on Friday.
The ‘Cats had a hard time solving Manteno ace Alyssa Dralle, as they mustered six hits off of her. They manufactured four runs in the process on three extra base hits.
The Panthers staked themselves to a 10-0 lead before the ‘Cats could respond. They fired back with three of their own in the fourth to make it 10-3.

The Wilmington baseball team was unable to stave off a comeback in a 12-11 loss to Manteno on Friday.
Manteno took a 2-0 lead but the ‘Cats answered immediately with a five-run second to pull in front 5-2.
Manteno cut it to 5-4 with two in the third. That score would hold until the sixth inning when they both scored two runs each to make it 7-6.
The ‘Cats scored four insurance runs in the seventh to put them up 11-6 but it wasn’t enough as the Panthers came back to scratch the ‘Cats with a six-run seventh.

Wildcat girls, boys tracksters set new personal records in Coal City

On April 5, the Running Wildcats opened their outdoor season when they traveled to Coal City to compete against the Reed-Custer and the hosting Coalers.
Team scores for the girls meet were Reed-Custer 37.5, Wilmington 36, and Coal City 25.5. Scores of the boys meet were Coal City 64, Reed-Custer 46, and Wilmington 31.
The girls had 10 personal records (PR’s) on the day and the boys had 15 PR’s. A PR is an improvement on a person’s previous mark or the establishment of a personal record.

The Wilmington softball team held off Streator 8-6 on Monday to improve to 3-0 in the Illinois Central Eight Conference.
The Lady ‘Cats scored first with two in the second to take a 2-0 lead. Streator answered immediately in the third with a run to make it 2-1.
The ‘Cats extended it to 5-1 with two more runs in the third and one in the fourth. Streator finally answered with more than a run as they scored two to cut into the ‘Cats lead, 5-3.

Clark, ‘Cats edge the Irish

The Wilmington soccer team beat Bishop McNamara 4-2 on Monday.
The ‘Cats blanked the Irish and scored a goal to lead 1-0 at the half.
They scored three more to edge the Irish, 4-2.
Alexa Clark was on her game as she scored two more goals with 15 steals.
Alaina Clark and Ella Banas also had goals while Alaina added two assists with 11 steals.
Banas had 10 steals. Abbie Rampa also had an assist with two steals.

Wildcats nab second in the Rantoul Invite

The Wilmington baseball team went 2-1 during the Rantoul Invite to place second on Saturday.
They fell short against Bradley Bourbonnais in a 16-8 slugfest on Saturday during the championship game.
