William Whiteside

WILMINGTON—William Howard Whiteside, "Bill," 89 of Wilmington, passed away peacefully Thursday, June 8, 2017 in Pinellas Park, FL.
Born July 28, 1927 in Streator, William Howard was a son of George and Blanche (Pennington) Whiteside. He was raised and educated in Wilmington and graduated from the Wilmington Public Schools with the class of 1945. Bill went on to honorably serve in the United States Navy along with the United States Air Force. After serving his country, Bill worked as a painter doing both interior and exterior work up until he retired at the age of 79.  He also owned and operated Johnsons Stop and Go from 1970 to 1985.  In Bill's free time he enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his three children: Karen Deithman of Texas, Ken (Sue) Whiteside of Wilmington and Kathy Plyer of Oswego; five grandchildren and one brother, Jim (Kathy) Whiteside of Florida, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Chuck Whiteside and sister, Marion Letts.
Per Bill's wishes cremation rites have been accorded.
A graveside service with full military honors will be held Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at 10 a.m. in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery. Those wishing to attend may assemble at the funeral home by 9:15 a.m. for a formal procession, which will depart at 9:30 a.m.
