Velma Willis

CARBON HILL—Velma L. Willis, 61, of Carbon Hill, passed away Saturday, Dec. 23, 2017 in Morris Hospital.
Born May 12, 1956 in Morris, she was the daughter of the late William and Marlene (Treadman) Nelson.
Raised and educated in Morris and Seneca, Velma met the love of her life, Bruce Willis and were married Aug. 13, 1983.
She worked as a waitress at Gardner Restaurant, the Golden Flame and the Feed Bag in Mazon, and at Whistle Stop in Diamond up until suffering a stroke.  
She was very involved with her family and enjoyed dirt track motorcycle racing. She was a member for over 10 years of the Turning Pointe Apostolic Church in Coal City.
Velma is survived by her husband Bruce; three daughters: Jodi (Matt) Terry of Creve Coeur, Il, Jessica (Jason Schoenman) Willis of Verona, and Joestela Willis of Carbon Hill; and one stepson: Brendon Willis-Polerecky; three grandchildren: Molly Terry of Mossville, Leah Willis and Lila Schoenman of Verona; and a sister: Pastor Ida Nelson of Coal City.
Preceded in death by her parents; one sister: Faith Nelson; and one brother: William Nelson, Jr.
Visitation will be held on Friday, Dec. 29, 2017 from noon to 1 p.m. at the U.C. Davis-Callahan Funeral Home with a Celebration of Velma's Life immediately following at 1 p.m.
Services will be officiated by Pastor Glenn Townsell of Ottawa Lighthouse.
Preferred memorials may be made to the family to help offset expenses.
