Unit 1 Board members earn master status

Four members of the Unit 1 Board of Education were recognized for their participation in programs and events hosted by the Illinois Association of School Boards.
Unit 1 Board president Ken P. Miller and member Quint Harmon were honored for achieving master board member level 2 status and vice president Shawn Hamilton and member Robert Bianchetta earned the status of master board member maintained.
Board members earn points based on attendance and participation in various conferences, meetings and trainings hosted by the state organization. Master board member level 2 is awarded upon reaching 130-199 points and master board member is awarded to those achieving 200 points. Those earning maintained status have acquired additional points in the year.
“One of the things I think board members can do is stay educated and participate with the Illinois Association of School Boards events,” said Unit 1 Superintendent Dr. Kent Bugg in announcing the recognition’s.
Traditionally, the awards are presented during the association’s fall dinner meetings that are held across the state. Due to the pandemic, the division meetings are virtual this year and the awards were forwarded for presentation at the local level.
Bugg said he often shares how the district is fortunate to have a supportive board of education, “that is very engaged and lets us do our job, which I appreciate. This board is always out for what’s best for kids and provide the best education possible in the most responsible way.”
The superintendent went on to congratulate the recognized board members and thanked the entire board for its support.
