A trio of victories

It was a good night for the Coalers, Comets and Wildcats as all three football teams celebrated non-conference victories during Week 2.
Daniel Jezik ran for nearly 300 yards with two touchdowns to lead undefeated Coal City (#4) past the #2 team in Class 2A, Bishop McNamara, 34-20.
Wilmington’s Cody Franzen, Jake Rodewold and Keaton Hopwood led the charge as the ‘Cats (2-0) upended Oak Lawn, 58-28. Franzen ran for 84 yards with a score while Rodewold had another good game, rushing for 76 yards and two scores. Hopwood threw for over 100 yards and three touchdowns.
And the Comets (1-1) got a 35-20 win over Dwight as the Comet defense forced four turnovers and Blake Foster had three rushing touchdowns on his 18th birthday.
