Robert Zerboglio

COAL CITY—Robert "Bob" Zerboglio, "Gonz," 83, of Coal City, passed away Thursday, June 1, 2017 at Alden Estates of Shorewood.
Born Nov. 21, 1933 in Morris, IL, Robert Paul was a son of Peter Paul and Bessie (Hejna) Zerboglio. He was raised in Coal City, graduated from Coal City High School, and went on to attend Illinois State University. Bob was a veteran of the United States Navy and honorably served on the USS Forrestal. On Aug. 7, 1954, Bob married Gloria Jean Wills in Assumption Catholic Church in Coal City, and together they made their home and raised their family in Coal City. Bob's career began at the Joliet Army Ammunition plant before he went on to gain employment with Chamlin Engineering. He later returned to work for the Department of the Army at the Arsenal, and retired as the Commander's Representative in 1996. He was a member of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church in Coal City, the Dwight Country Club and the Coal City Area Club. Bob was a past member of the Coal City Lions, and served on the planning and zoning board for the village of Coal City.
Bob was an avid sportsman, who loved following the Chicago Cubs, Blackhawks, Bulls and Bears and took great pleasure in playing golf. He enjoyed watching Jeopardy, working crossword puzzles and traveling both domestically and abroad. Together Bob and Gloria enjoyed wintering and playing golf in Florida.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Gloria; three daughters: Susan (Robert) Walsh and Lori (John) Halliday, both of Coal City and Julie (Darren) Stiles of North Augusta, SC; six grandchildren: Kelli (Peter) Ogrodnik of New Lenox, Nicole (Ryan) D'Arcy of Manhattan Beach, CA; Kyle (Brittney) Halliday of Coal City, Christopher (Allison) Walsh of Bloomington, IL and Colin Stiles and Rebecca Stiles, both of Coal City; two great-grandchildren, Madeline and Peter Ogrodnik; one sister, Charlene (Bill) Hicks of Coal City; one nephew, Steve (Michelle) Wills and two nieces, Jennifer (Jeremy) Shaw and Myra Sproull.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Betty Zerboglio; father and mother-in-law, Clyde and Alice Wills and his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Myron and Susie Wills.
Visitation and video tribute will be held Sunday, June 4, 2017 between the hours of 2 and 5 p.m. at Reeves Funeral Home, 75 N. Broadway, one block north of IL Route 113 in Coal City. Funeral services will follow Monday, June 5 at 11 a.m. in the Assumption Parish Berst Center, 150 S. Kankakee St. in Coal City. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated with Reverend Robert Noesen, and military honors will be rendered at the conclusion of the Mass.
Cremation rites will take place following the services, and a private inurnment will be in Braceville-Gardner Cemetery, Columbarium.
Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Bob's memory to the Assumption Catholic Church Building Fund.
