Rebecca McComb

ST. ANN—Rebecca L. “Becky” McComb, 65, of St. Anne, IL and formerly of Ransom, IL, passed away Monday, May 7, 2018 at her home, after a six-month battle with fast-progressing ALS.
Born Sept. 18, 1952 in Atlanta, GA, Rebecca Lee was the eldest daughter of Dal and Betty Estes. She was raised on the South Side of Chicago in Beverly; attended Vanderpool Elementary School, and graduated from Morgan Park High School.  She moved to Ransom in the early 1970’s, and it was there that she met her future husband, Kenny McComb. They were united in marriage on Aug. 12, 1972 in St. Patrick Catholic Church in Ransom. Following their marriage, they settled in Ransom, where they raised their family and continued to farm for 43 years.
Prior to their retirement, Kenny and Becky also owned and operated a seed company, which they were proud to have grown sales from 75 bags at their start to more than 12,000 bags of Beck’s Hybrids annually.  Becky was also a volunteer for several years in the Pontiac, IL Tourism office with her Mom, Betty. She will be remembered as an avid reader, gardener, cook and baker.  Becky loved, and was known for cooking amazing meals and decorating cakes for family and friends.  She cheered loudly for the Chicago Bears and, although a South Sider, was a diehard Cubs fan, much to her family’s dismay. Since their retirement, Becky and Kenny have traveled extensively, with her most memorable trips being to Alaska, Hawaii and countless Caribbean cruises.
Survivors include her loving husband of 45 years, Kenny; one son and daughter-in-law, Jason and Rhonda McComb, of Bourbonnais; the “sunshine” and light of her life, grandson, Lucas McComb; loving siblings: David Estes, of Pontiac; Cynthia (Simmie Baer) of Silver Lake, WA; Melissa (Keith) Barnhart, of Yorkville, IL and Elizabeth (Mary Fechtig) Estes, of Saugatuck, MI; brothers-in-law: Wayne (Judy) McComb, of Morris and George McComb and Mike Hoover, of Verona; nieces and nephews: Lizzie (Craig) Roscoe, of Villa Park, IL; Claire Barnhart, of Los Angeles, CA; Jeff McComb, of Missouri and Doug McComb, of Morris, as well as several great-nieces and nephews, including her Cubs pal, Hayden Roscoe and his big sister, Grace.
Becky was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Adam and her father and mother-in-law, Wayne and Aggie McComb.
The family will receive friends for a memorial visitation at Baskerville Funeral Home, 700 E. Kahler Rd. in Wilmington on Saturday, May 12, 2018 from 11:30 a.m. until the time of Service and Remembrances at 12:30 p.m. A Celebration of Life will then follow at Ryan’s Pier, 112 E. 1st St. in Aroma Park, IL starting at 2:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made as gifts in Becky’s memory to the Salvation Army in Kankakee, IL; the Betty Estes Memorial Scholarship, c/o Bank of Pontiac in Pontiac, IL; or to the River Valley Animal Rescue in Momence, IL.
