Paula J. Simpson

BRAIDWOOD—Paula J. (nee Thomas) Simpson, 71 of Braidwood, passed away unexpectedly at her home on July 15, 2026.
She was born on April 2, 1955 in Cleveland, OH to Fran Thomas. She married Carrol Simpson on April 12, 1975. Together, they raised Carrol’s three children. They were married 45 years until Carrol’s passing in 2020. Paula worked as a registered nurse for over 30 years. She enjoyed baking, traveling, and her family. She also had a passion for raising her beloved miniature schnauzers.
She is survived by her children: Kevin (Kris) Simpson, of Tennesee; Shaun (Collette) Simpson, of Coal City and Vickie Wiekert, of Fort Meyers, FL; her grandchildren: Bryan Wiekert, Shane Wiekert and Morgan Wiekert; her great-grandchild, Hayden (Catrina) Wiekert; her great-great-grandchild, Azealia Wiekert; her siblings: Lisa (Dale) Bays, Jay (Bonnie) Turner and Brenda Longfellow; her brother-in-law, Dick Simpson; her sisters-in-law, Debbie Borah and Janet Shelton; her uncle, Bernie (Mary) Zelis; her extended family, Jerry (Linda) Shields and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carrol Simpson; her mother, Fran Thomas; her sister, Laura LeFald; her brothers–in-law, Harlen Simpson and Dean Simpson; her sister-in-law, Barb Simpson and several aunts and uncles.
Memorials in Paula’s name can be made to the donor’s choice.
Cremation rites have been accorded.
A “Celebration of Paula’s Life” will be scheduled at a later date.
