Marjorie Ann Stewart

WILMINGTON—Marjorie Ann Stewart, 90, of Wilmington, passed away peacefully with family at her side on Dec. 26, 2018 at Presence Villa Franciscan Nursing Home in Joliet, following a life filled with love and raising nine children.
Born Dec. 7, 1928 on a farm in rural Brocton, Marjorie was the third oldest of six to Jeremiah Aloysius and Kathleen Marie (nee Twigg) Fitzgerald.
After graduating Valedictorian from Brocton High School in May of 1946, Marjorie started working as a stenographer prior to taking a position as a financial secretary for the Illinois Department of Public Aid in Paris.
On Jan. 8, 1949, Marjorie married the love of her life, Herman Joseph Stewart at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Brocton. Together they made their home and began a family. Following the birth of their second son, Marjorie left the workforce and dedicated her life to raising her nine children at home until her youngest began school. It was then that she returned to work at Royal Willow Nursing Home in Wilmington until relocating to Rockville, IN.
Once established in Rockville, Marjorie worked for a short time at Vermillion County Hospital before gaining employment with L.A.B. Nursing Home, where she worked in housekeeping and then as an activity aide until her retirement.
Following the death of her husband, Marjorie returned to Wilmington to be closer to family and friends. She will be remembered for her love to dance, play cards, read, go for long walks, work on puzzles, exercise, visit with her grandchildren, watch her Chicago Cubs play, and listen to her family play music.
Marjorie was devoted to her Catholic faith and family. She was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church in Wilmington and while residing in Rockville, IN was a member of St. Joseph Parish. Her family is at peace knowing that she is in the arms of God and reunited with her loved ones who passed before her.
Survivors include seven children: Joseph Allen (Rolene) Stewart, of Columbus, GA, Robert Francis (Deborah) Stewart, of Stockbridge, GA, Jerry David (Wilma) Stewart, of Wilmington, Charlie (Kathy) Stewart, of Braidwood, Kathleen Marie (Greg) Fisketjon, of Berthoud, CO, Elizabeth “Betty Jo” (Timothy) Kelly, of Joliet, and Florence Marie (Richard) Olmsted, of Dunlap; her son-in-law, John Bladorn, of Janesville, WI; 18 grandchildren: Jeffrey (Tara) Stewart, Jennifer (Steven) Collins, Jolene (Travis) Fondrk, Michael (Jennifer) Stewart, Brian Stewart, Jerry David II (Lisa) Stewart, Sheryl Stewart, Scot Stewart, Amie Vilt, Ryan Bladorn, Kendal Bladorn, Kymber (Nicholas) Sadlo, Christopher Kelly, Tyler Kelly, Emilie Olmsted, Anna Olmsted, Josh Fisketjon and Matt Fisketjon; 14 great grandchildren; one sister Pauline Anderson, of Paris, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents; one son Louis Scott (1960); her husband Herman in 1997; daughter, Marguerite Ann Bladorn (2007); siblings: Edward Fitzgerald, Mary Blair, Bernard Fitzgerald and James Fitzgerald, and many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
The family will receive friends for a visitation at St. Rose Catholic Church, 604 S. Kankakee Street in Wilmington on Thursday, Jan. 3, 2019 from 9 a.m. until the time of funeral service 11 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated with Rev. Sebastian Gargol presiding.
Cremation rites will be accorded following the services and inurnment will be in Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery in Wilmington, where she will be laid to rest with her late husband and son Louis.
