Lawrence Bittermann

BATAVIA—Lawrence A. “Larry” Bittermann, 90, of Batavia, formerly of Wilmington and Wheaton, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, June 20, 2018.
He was born on March 29, 1928, the son of Lawrence and Leona (nee Black) Bittermann. He was united in marriage to the late Patricia B. Bittermann on June 18, 1949 in Glen Ellyn, IL.
Larry was born in Wilmington, IL. After attending Wilmington High School, Larry went on to graduate from the University of Illinois, where he met and married his college sweetheart Patricia. Larry began his career in banking as a teller at the First National Bank of Wilmington in 1952, staying there for 38 years before his retirement as president and chairman of the board.
Larry was an active member in his church, and always found time for his hobbies which included gardening, caning, woodworking, stained glass work, collecting and restoring antique furniture, and traveling with his wife.
He acted as a board member of the Chamber of Commerce and was a longtime member of the Rotary Club. He will be missed dearly.
Lawrence is survived by his; four children Sandra (Dr. Steven) Atwood of West Tisbury, MA; David (Margaret) Bittermann of Marblehead, MA; Susan Johnson and Sharon (Chris Johnson) DeLine both of Batavia; eight grandchildren, Jeremiah (Elizabeth) Atwood, Tristan (Cassandra) Atwood, Sarah and Noah Bittermann, Mariah Johnson, Matthew (Brandy) DeLine, Anne (Clint) Walker, and Thomas (Jessica) DeLine; and five great-grandchildren, Haleigh DeLine, Lillian and Elliot Walker, and Isabella and Olivia DeLine; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his wife, his parents, and his sister Helen Francis Boggan.
Visitation will be held 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday, June 22, 2018 at Moss-Norris Funeral Home, 100 South 3rd Street, St. Charles, IL 60174.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, June 23, 2018 at Batavia United Methodist Church, 8 North Batavia Ave, Batavia, IL where he will lie in state from 1 p.m. until the time of the service at the church.
Graveside services will be held 10 a.m. Monday, June 25, 2018 at Elmhurst Cemetery, 1212 E. Washington St., Joliet, IL.
