Lady ‘Cats suffer close loss to Morris

    The Wilmington varsity softball team kicked off their season Thursday when they traveled to Morris for a non-conference match-up.
    The Lady Wildcats battled hard, but came up short, falling to the Redskins, 5-4.
    Morris took the initial lead in the fourth frame with four runs scored. But Wilmington responded in the top of the sixth to tie the game up 4-4.
    Madison Gorges recorded a three-run triple, while Kiley Sowa recorded an RBI single for the runs in the frame.
    Bella Egizio, Jenny Kucharski, Megan Mann and Sowa all recorded runs in the game.
    Unfortunately, Morris would respond in the bottom of the seventh with one more run to win.
    Ava Narine led the Lady Wildcats hitting 3-for-4, while Jenny Kucharski went 2-for-3.
    In the circle, Jenny Kucharski suffered the loss, lasting five innings. She let up four unearned runs off six hits, walked one and struck out five.
    Katie Kucharski hurled the final 1.2 innings, letting up just one earned run off two hits and striking out one.
    Wilmington’s next game will be on Thursday when they travel to Clifton Central.
