Joseph Carroll

WILMINGTON—Joseph Carroll, 61, of Wilmington, formerly Chicago, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2018 at his home.
Born Feb. 2, 1956 in Chicago, Joseph William was a son of James and Phyllis (nee Finn) Carroll. He was raised and educated in Chicago, graduated from Marist High School and received a bachelor's degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago. Joseph spent his career as a truck driver, and initially started driving across country as an over the road driver. Later in the 1990’s he became a short haul driver, which he continued to do to date. He was a member of Saint Rose Catholic Church in Wilmington, and enjoyed shooting pool in his spare time. Joseph was an avid gardener, and was proud of the flowers that he would grow in his garden.
Survivors include his sister, Lucy (Rafael) Serrano of Newark, as well as Lucy's mother-in-law, Rufina Serrano who was very fond of Joseph.
Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Timothy Carroll and his nephew and godson, Ricky J.
Joseph will lie in state at Saint Rose Catholic Church, 604 S. Kankakee St. in Wilmington on Feb. 10, 2018 from 10 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated with Reverend Sebastian Gargol presiding. Burial will follow in Mount Olivet Catholic Cemetery, Wilmington.
