George Hendricks

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX.—George Andrew Hendricks passed away on Nov. 28, 2018 at his home in Corpus Christi, TX.
He was born on Sept. 6, 1929 to George Andrew and Robbie Lannie (Stevens) Hendricks. He committed his life to Christ at the age of 12.  He graduated from Corpus Christi High School, from University of Corpus Christi in 1950, and was ordained to the gospel ministry at Ebony Acres Baptist Church on April 6, 1952. On June 29, 1951, he married the love of his life, Geraldine (Jerry) Doris Rose.
He was bivocational: a pastor and full-time electrician. He began his preaching career sharing Jesus in the jail before pastoring his first church in Hochheim, TX. After coursework at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, in late 1955, George and Jerry followed the Lord's call to northern Illinois with three small children, the youngest only three weeks old.
For the next 59 years he raised his family, worked as a master electrician, and pastored two churches. He pastored Main Street Baptist Church, in Braidwood, for 54 years until his retirement in 2011.  While there he shared the gospel through faithful service to not only his church but also to Vietnamese refugees and countless others in need throughout the community.
His love of the Lord never wavered nor did his devotion to sharing the Gospel. During his life he shared the Gospel with hundreds if not thousands of people. Like George Washington, he could truly say,          “Peace (of the Lord) with the world is my sincerest wish.”
He was initiated into the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers in 1950 and retired from electrical work in 1992; he was a member of the IBEW for 68 years. During that time he worked as a foreman on the first nuclear power plant built in the United States, Dresden Generating Station, and also as a foreman at the Braidwood Generating Station. He volunteered his electrical skills for Habitat for Humanity.
He loved reading Scientific American, Popular Science, and Popular Mechanics; welding; and watching Star Trek.
In 2014, after being diagnosed with Parkinson's disease, he and his wife left their beloved community in Illinois to move to Mississippi. Later they returned to Corpus Christi to be near family.
He is survived by his loving Wife and his children: Robert Andrew Hendricks, of Corpus Christi; Katherine Ann  Walters (George), of Atlanta, GA; John David Hendricks (Claudia), of Corpus Christi; Cynthia Rose Ewoldt (Matthew), of Reedville, VA; Faith Elizabeth Nance (Jerry ) of Gulfport, MS; and Richard John Jackson,  of Corpus Christi.  He is also survived by his only brother John Wayne Hendricks (Moira), of Sarasota, FL; seven grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and three step-great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held on Dec. 2, 2018 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of First Baptist Church of Corpus Christi, 3115 Ocean Drive, Corpus Christi, 78404, and a private interment will occur the following morning at 10AM at Rose Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to  the Dr. Jerry N. and Lynne O. Barlow – Bivocational Scholarship at NOBTS, Office for Institutional Advancement, 3939 Gentilly Blvd., New Orleans, LA 70126.
