George Dare Sr.

CARBON HILL—George Edward Dare Sr., 99, of Carbon Hill, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, Thursday, April 26, 2018 at the home of his son, George.  
Born April 19, 1919 in Wilmington, he was the son of George and Hattie Christine (nee Johnson) Dare.  George was a 32nd degree Mason with the Masonic Lodge #704 A.F. & A.M. in Braidwood.  He retired from Laborers Local #75 as a 50 year member.  George's pride and joys were his 1924 Model T truck and his 1938 AC tractor.  He enjoyed playing solitaire, watching birds, squirrels, and riding his bicycle around town.  He was proud to be part of the construction of the Dresden Generating Station.  He was always there to help and was a man that will be remembered for his many favorite quotes, words of wisdom, and reminiscing stories.  
Surviving are one son, George (Kathy) Dare Jr. of Morris; four daughters: Georgiean Benson, of South Wilmington; Beverly McKee, of Cape Coral, FL; Betty (William) Booras, of Plainfield and Donna (Joey) Ferrari, of South Wilmington; 12 grandchildren: Dawn Cooper, Eric (Brieanne) Benson, Jason Benson, Michelle (Jessica Phillips) Dare, Bryan Dare, Shane (Addie) Dare, Christine (Rowland) Darbin, Joel (Kelly) McKee, Emma, Billy, and Elsa Booras, and Daniel (Brittany) Hill; 13 great-grandchildren, son-in-law, Dave Cooper of Braidwood and numerous nieces and nephews.  
Preceding him in death were his parents, wife, Marie (nee Benson) Dare, who he married March 3, 1949; daughter, Shirley Cooper; grand-daughter, Heather McKee and four sisters: Emily Marek, Christine Primm, Helen Phillips and Charlotte Welsh.      Visitation will be Tuesday, May 1, from 4-7 p.m. Funeral services will be at the R.W. Patterson Funeral Home & Crematory, Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at 10 a.m.  Rev. Brad Shumacher will officiate. Interment will be at Braceville-Gardner Cemetery, Braceville.  
Pallbearers will be Tom Sayers, Dawn Cooper, Eric Benson, Jason Benson, Joel McKee, Bill Booras, Daniel Hill and Shane Dare.
