Dorothy Buchta

DIAMOND—Dorothy Marie Buchta, (nee Hermann), 89, of Diamond, and formerly of Cicero and Brookfield, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2018 at Morris Hospital.
Born March 1, 1928 in Cicero, IL, Dorothy Marie was a daughter of Nicholas and Olga (nee Kazda) Hermann. She was raised and educated in Cicero and graduated from Morton East High School with the class of 1946. On June 12, 1948, Dorothy married Joseph Buchta at Our Lady of the Mount in Cicero. Together they started their family and called Brookfield, IL home for 40 plus years. Dorothy was a devoted wife and mother and proudly took on the role of homemaker. She was a long time member of St. Barbara Parish of Brookfield until relocating to Diamond, IL where she became active in the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish in Coal City. Dorothy was also a member of the Czechoslovak Society of America, as well as a Girl Scout leader.
In her free time Dorothy enjoyed many activities which included bowling, roller skating, camping, doing puzzles, knitting, baking, playing bingo and bingo scratch off cards. She was a huge Los Angeles Dodgers fan who also enjoyed watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. Dorothy's most treasured times were spent taking care of and spending time with her family. She was also proud to be a lifelong honor roll recipient.
Survivors include her four daughters: Cynthia Buchta, of Diamond; Cheryl (Paul) Hacholski, of Westchester; Carol Buchta, of Crest Hill and Christine (Tim) Kancler, of Braidwood; two grandchildren: Mathew Kancler, of Nashville, TN and Kristina Kancler, of Braidwood; her twin sister, Dolores Martini, of Addison and numerous nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 60 years, brothers: Bill Hermann and Charles Horn; sister, Lillian Hermann; grandson, Marty Hacholski, as well as one niece and three nephews.
Visitation and video tribute will be held  Friday, Feb. 16, 2018 from 9 to 11 a.m. at Reeves Funeral Home, 75 N. Broadway, one block north of Illinois Route 113, in Coal City. Funeral services will follow in Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church, 215 S. Kankakee St. in Coal City at 11:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated with Reverend Robert Noesen presiding.
Burial will be in Queen of Heaven Catholic Cemetery in Hillside, IL where Dorothy will be laid to rest with her husband, Joseph. For those wishing to attend, committal services in the chapel are scheduled for 1:45 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made as gifts in Dorothy's memory to  the Assumption Catholic Church Building Fund, 195 S. Kankakee St., Coal City, IL 60416.
