Donald Hoffman

CUSTER PARK—Donald Joseph Hoffman, 87, of Custer Park, IL passed away peacefully, Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at his home.  
Born May 11, 1931 in Custer Twp., IL to the late Joseph and Pearl Abbie (nee Tooper) Hoffman.  Donald began working for Custer Park Elementary as a school bus driver and then as a custodian.  Following his employment with the school, he worked for Roper Factory from 1962 until the time the plant shutdown.  While maintaining his full time jobs he also farmed within the Custer Township area.  
Donald was a founding member of the Custer Park Volunteer Fire Department.  He was known to be a quiet man, but enjoyed spending time with his family.  He collected antique tractors and was a shade tree mechanic.  
Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Marilyn (nee Love) Hoffman of Custer Park, whom he married June 10, 1951 in Custer Park; four children: Donald Joseph Hoffman, Jr. of Braidwood, Joanne Nichols of Grand Junction, CO, Sherrill (Brian) Knorr of Braidwood, and Susan Marie (Tom) Nahas of Braidwood; eight grandchildren: Donald (Bonnie) Hoffman, III, Daniel (Elizabeth) Hoffman, Jason (Jennifier) Nichols, Mary (Nick) Jordan, Katheryn (Owen Cummings) Knorr, Jennifer (Wesley) Trammel, Kayla (Jake) Harper, and Lauren Nahas; nine great-grandchildren: Abigail, Aiden, Paisley, Madison, and Ashtyn Hoffman, Jayanna and Joelle Nichols, Eli Trammel, and Hadley Harper; four siblings: Arlene Hoffman of Custer Park, Sharon (Harley) Kirchner of Limestone, Lenora Earley of WA, and Ralph (Jackie) Hoffman of AZ; three sisters-in-law: Monica Serafino of MI, Thelma Hoffman of Kankakee, and Karen Hoffman of Kankakee; brother-in-law, Ron Kuchar of Mokena, IL; and numerous nieces and nephews.  
Preceding him in death were his parents; three brothers: Wayne, Eugene, and Marvin Hoffman; and one sister, Pamela Kuchar.  
Cremation rites have been accorded.  Memorial visitation will be Tuesday, May 22, 2018 from 4-7 p.m. with a memorial service beginning at 7 p.m.  
Inurnment will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in his name to the Kankakee Valley Hospice would be appreciated.
