Bonnie Faurot

DWIGHT—Bonnie Jo Faurot, nee Doody, 76, died peacefully Monday, Jan. 15 at Heritage Health Senior Care in Dwight, IL.
Born in Chicago on Aug. 4, 1941 to her parents Joseph and Hazel (Mayberry) Doody, Bonnie was an only child who enjoyed school, becoming very active at her alma mater, Harper High School in Chicago.  In May of 1961, Bonnie was wed to Norman “Red” Faurot.  Their family would grow to include five children, seven grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
A longtime resident of Braidwood, Bonnie worked many different jobs over the years to help support her family, including stints at City Hall, Fossil Ridge Library, and First Presbyterian Church.  She found her home, however, at Reed-Custer High School, working there for nearly 20 years until her retirement.
Bonnie enjoyed her time at the library, crafting and building storyboards for the children's reading time.  Bonnie was an accomplished seamstress, taking great pride in being able to create costumes and fancy clothing for her children, as well as mending the occasional rip or tear.  She was also an avid collector of thimbles, amassing a collection of well over 500.  Bonnie also loved cooking, her family many times the beneficiary of her delicious holiday feasts.  In fact, her famous potato salad recipe earned first place in the R-C Cooks side dish category recently.
She greatly enjoyed spending quality time at home with her grandkids gardening, playing board games, and cuddling up watching Disney movies.  Bonnie also was very fond of her special “retiree” friends, gathering every so often to share a meal and memories.
She is survived by her children: Patricia (Tim) Vota of Plano, IL, Robert “Red” Faurot of Earlville, IL, Phillip Faurot of Kempton, IL, John (Michaelanne) Faurot of Braidwood, IL, Kathleen (Mark) Wolf of Braidwood, IL;  seven grandchildren: Robert Carr, Grace Wolf, Emily Wolf, Alyssa Faurot, Kaitlyn Faurot, Alexandrea Faurot, Matthew Wolf; and one great-grandchild: Emi McGray.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her husband Norman “Red” Faurot; and her parents: Hazel (Mayberry) Doody and Joseph Doody.
Cremation rites were accorded by Neptune Society of Downers Grove, IL.  Interment will be held privately with family at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL.
A celebration of life luncheon for family and friends will be held Sunday, Jan. 28 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Jones-Eez Bar-B-Que, 551 W. Kennedy Rd., Braidwood, IL.
