A masking ordinance put into place by the Wilmington City Council back in 2020 was never actually enforced by local law enforcement.
Now, the rule is moot, as the council rescinded the ordinance this week.
The change comes in light of the state’s move into Phase 5 of the Restore Illinois Plan, which occurred on Friday, June 11.
That ordinance, which passed in August last year, required masking in all public places. However, at the time it was passed, city officials said they wouldn’t be actively enforcing the ordinance.
