When the Townes of Braidwood subdivision was first platted, the plan was for a full neighborhood of modern single family homes and duplexes to serve as an attractive place for families to call home.
But when the original developer declared bankruptcy in August of 2009, the city of Braidwood was left to clean up the mess left behind, which included dozens of vacant lots and crumbling streets.
The city took possession of 58 lots in 2011 and struck a deal with a new developer. But those plans fell apart after one of the new investors died in 2015.
